Toby's profile has been removed from Petfinder.com, indicating to me that he has found a home. That's wonderful news, meaning that 2 Petfinder adoptables were adopted during the Super Dog Sunday™ charity event; Hunter was also adopted a couple of weeks ago. Thanks to everyone who helped to bring this about, and for all of your participation.

I hope you all enjoyed watching the thumbnail images of Super Dog Sunday. I had a few questions about viewing. You can actually click on them to see a larger view. But today I've got a fun surprise--a slideshow! Half of our entries are shared here (including some of my own furry family's pics). The other half will appear on DogTipper.com, so be sure to watch their slideshow also, so you don't miss a single one of these adorable photos.

As a late addition to this, I thought you would enjoy seeing this cute video. We did not include videos in the contest, but Rocco wanted to show off his hiking skills anyway. Be sure to watch for a good laugh:
Before I go, I want you all to know that we learned of Hunter's adoption last week. He was featured in the Super Dog Sunday™ photo contest as a Petfinder adoptable. We also received word of several donations in addition to those of your sponsors and hosts. Petfinder Foundation is thrilled with any and all help--anytime. It's never to late to help a shelter animal, so feel free to donate here in Honor of Super Dog Sunday™, if you can.

Finally, please join me in thanking our Platinum Sponsor, Nature's Logic, for donating generously to Petfinder Foundation, and helping us to promote animals in need of finding a forever home. Now go hug your pets and remind them of how lucky they are!

Thanks again to all of you who participated in the contest. We had a great time watching all the fun photos. Stay tuned for word on next year's event and start looking for cool, new photo ideas. I wonder what Tanner and Oliver will come up with next?

Super Dog Sunday™ has been brought to you by Event Barkers, a partnership of All Things Dog Blog and DogTipper.com. This event was 100% for charity, benefitting Petfinder Foundation. We covered all expenses ourselves and donated additional funds to help the cause. Nature's Logic's donation went directly to Petfinder Foundation and no fees were paid to Event Barkers.

#SuperDogSunday Winner Announcements!
When the final decisions were handed to Paris and I the judges looked like two very tired folks. Between trying to enjoy the game and also working to bring us decisions, this was one very tough volunteer position for both of our judges. Every charity event needs volunteers, and ours worked awfully hard for their beer and pretzels!

I'm sure you're all wondering who scores the great loot. First, let me give a full description of the prizes. As indicated in an earlier post, the bulk of the prize value comes from our Platinum Sponsor, Nature's Logic. Each of the first 6 winners will receive about $65-$70 in Nature's Logic foods for their dog to enjoy--a variety of flavors that includes kibble and canned.

In addition to the array of Nature's Logic flavors, Event Barkers is tossing in some goodies also. These winners will each snag a football toy for Fido (sized appropriately for most dogs), a doggie bandana sized for your dog, and a pet rescue coloring book for the children in your life.

Our Best All Around Cat winner will score the following great prizes, along with a rescue coloring book, kitty treats, and a copy of Barkonomics--great ideas for saving money on pet products and services. The cat carrier is made by Sherpa and is truly a beautiful bag that our winner will be proud to use. An assortment of toys has been hand-selected by our friends at CatTipper.com, where cats know that they can be Super Dogs also!

Finally, the Best All Around Dog winner scores a major haul like our cat winner above. In addition to the items pictured below, this lucky Fido will receive a Luv and Emma door-hanger towel for cleanups on the front step, an extra special football toy for great indoor and outdoor fun, the pet rescue coloring book that's sure to thrill the children in the family, a bottle of Nature's Logic Sardine Oil for skin and coat health, and more than $100 in Nature's Logic dog food. WOW!
Are you drooling yet? Tanner is! Let's get to naming our winners:
  1. PreTweet winner (chosen from Tweets using the #SuperDogSunday hashtag): @babymarohn. Please follow @EventBarkers and watch for a DM.
  2. Social Media winner (chosen from entries in the Giveaway Tools widget here): Candie L.
  3. Cutest pet photo: Bella, No. 17
  4. Most Original pet photo: Echo, No. 69. (Click to see this adoptable Ferret!)
  5. Best Decked Out Pet Photo: Dobby, No. 71
  6. Best Decked Out Petfinder Adoptable: Joey, No. 72 (click to see his profile)
  7. Best All Around Cat Entry: Hayley, No 81
  8. Best All Around Dog Entry: Pepper, No. 24 (click to see her profile)
Participants who submitted these adorable winners will be notified pronto and should reply quickly to assure their prizes can be shipped with the rest of the group. Watch for your email from EventBarkers@gmail.com, or feel free to write to us if you see this announcement and believe you are a winner.

Tommorrow we'll be featuring a photo slideshow of the pictures that were submitted. Half will appear here on All Things Dog Blog, and half will be viewable on DogTipper.com. Be sure to enjoy this show where you'll be able to see all the photos in full size. Watch for many great entries like Indy the referee and Toby the kitten, samples seen above.
We'd like to thank our Platinum Sponsor, Nature's Logic, for their generous donation to Petfinder Foundation. We also want to thank the foundation for all their support in promoting our event. They have been wonderful to work with and we're proud to have given these adoptable Petfinder animals an extra chance at finding a forever home. Perhaps our entry listings will still continue this work and more homes will be found. We did learn that Hunter, the Golden Retriever at entry number 10, found a forever home last weekend. We're so happy for Hunter and know that you all share in our joy!

Just as important, we also wish to thank you all for your participation. Without your photo entries, we would have had no contest. YOU made it happen! We look forward to seeing you again next year. If you're already contemplating your costuming options, you may want to check out the giveaway running here on All Things Dog Blog through Valentine's Day. Best wishes!

Super Dog Sunday™ Judging Begins

by Carrie Boyko, CEB
The Super Dog Sunday entries continue through kickoff time today,Sunday, February 2. While they do, our judges have begun to sort entries into categories in preparation for the decision-making that will have to occur by Monday afternoon, Feburary 3.

Before I go on I simply must share this terrific news. Hunter seen at left was adopted since the Super Dog Sunday™ event began. We are so thrilled to know that he now has a home to call his own. Thank you to everyone who gave Hunter a second look and congratulations to Hunter and his new family.

The pressure is on in several categories. Others, not so much. For example, if you'd like to enter a photo in the Petfinder Decked Out Adoptables category, you'll not be competing with many artists, but thankfully there are a good number of dogs being given a fair shake. We know that Petfinder Foundation is happy about that! There is always plenty of room for more of your

pet entries and we certainly would love to give more of those Petfinder pets a shot at a home.

Here's my final link to the post where I've shared tips on how to enter, along with all the things you'll need to know to complete your entry. Thanks for participating and best of luck to you all. And finally, thank you again to Nature's Logic for joining Event Barkers as the Platinum Sponsor of this fun photo contest.

Super Dog Memories from 2013

Each year our Super Dog Sunday™ judges find it difficult to make their selections when there are always many standouts that simply cannot all win. It's tough when there are bunches of great photos and decked out pictures to choose from. Rufio above is one that I expected to take away a prize last year, but the judges decisions are final. Thankfully, I'm not one of them; it's a tough job!

After you have enjoyed watching the latest additions to the contest at the entry post here, I'd also like to share some of last year's entries, in case you still have not gotten enough. I've randomly split the entries into two slideshows at the links below. Enjoy the show:

The curtains will be drawn at kickoff time this evening, ending your opportunity to enter and to win. If you'd still like to give it the 'ole college try, here are the resources you'll need for entering:

  1. How to enter your winning photo
  2. The rules, just in case you need to be bored.
  3. Learn about our Platinum Sponsor, Nature's Logic, and the prizes.

#SuperDogSunday Funds
Petfinder Shelters with Pride

by Carrie Boyko, CEB
Today I'd like to introduce you to just one of the many shelter animals that Petfinder.com has available for adoption. Although Super Dog Sunday™ benefits the Petfinder Foundation, I want it to be clear that the funds donated go to caring for shelter animals, aiding Petfinder shelters, and promoting adoptable animals like Pepper. Here's what Pepper's foster parent had to say about her; read at your own risk:

"Pepper is a sweet girl who came to us from a shelter in Kentucky where she was set to be euthanized. She is doing very well, gets along with other dogs, cats, and loves people! She's completely cratetrained/housebroken and would do fine for a family with children. She's an outgoing, happy girl that loves to play and be loved on by the humans. She's truly a sweetheart that will do well for any family! Pepper is spayed, up to date on her vaccines, microchipped, heartworm tested and on prevention."
As you can see from this profile, Pepper came close to being euthanized at another
courtesty Petfinder.com
Pepper Needs a Hand from You
shelter. What's more, she's not only housetrained, but is friendly with other animals and people. And did I mention that she's cute too?!!!

And so I come to why Super Dog Sunday™ was founded. All over the U.S. there are shelters that work to secure healthcare, grooming, foster families, and food for Petfinder adoptable animals. All this takes money.

My family has adopted 4 of our more recent pets from Petfinder shelters in our area. Until I came along and took each one home, someone had to be there to clean litter boxes, scoop poop, fill food bowls, brush burs from coats and shuttle these pets to the veterinarian for their vaccinations. They each came to us flea-free, heartworm negative and ready to love. All this has value to me and Super Dog Sunday™ was founded as a way to say thank you.

To thank Petfinder.com and Petfinder Foundation, Nature's Logic pet food and Event Barkers made donations and have worked countless hours to produce the photo contest, bringing you this fun event. And further Event Barkers is working to promote Super Dog Sunday™ as yet another way to help you give these Petfinder adoptables a second look, by encouraging entries of Petfinder pets and creating prizes just for these entries. That's right! You could win one of 8 $100 value packages of Nature's Logic dog food and other fun goodies (including a football toy for Fido) just by entering a Petfinder adoptable in a football-themed photo. Learn more here.

Don't see the pet you are looking to adopt? No problem. Use the search options at Petfinder.com to fill in your wish list--location, breed, sex, size and more. That search function helped me locate Jacque, our family's most recent addition, to be a companion to my Mom. My mother had fallen in love with little Oliver and I had to take action or she may have swiped him! Now she's thrilled with sweet Jacque whose story would break your heart.

As a puppy, Jacque had joined a sibling in a loving home. Unfortunately their owner became terminally ill and Jacque, along with his sister, was returned to the rescue. While his sister was scooped up quickly, Jacque had a pigment flaw on his nose that made him less desirable to some lookers. My mother, however, thought the spot on his nose was cute as a button, and the deal was sealed. Ironically, as Jacque finished maturing, his nose flaw disappeared and is now completely black.

There is no greater way to help an animal than to give it a home with the care and love it
Jacque and Oliver:
Two Rescues from Two Very Different Situations
deserves. Realizing that not everyone has the ability or desire to adopt a pet, we would like to ask for your help in another way. If you can, would you please dig deep into your pockets, sock drawers, car change buckets and piggy banks. If you can find it in your heart to offer a small donation, you'll reap the reward of knowing you helped a pet like Pepper receive the care she needs until the right family comes along. Who knows; that family may be yours.

You can make a donation, no matter how small, at this link. Please use the third option that allows you to donate in Honor Of. When you check out, add "Super Dog Sunday" to the box to let the folks at Petfinder Foundation know how you came to make your helpful hand off. On behalf of all of the Petfinder adoptables, we thank you!
