Oliver has been examining our footballs all day. He likes the strings on the big one, but otherwise, it's simply too big for him to play with. This is more his size, although he still cannot pick it up. Anybody know where we can find a Papillon-sized football? Poor Oliver!

Rabbits Cheer on their Team: Super Dog Sunday Gets Pet Hopping

Thanks to the Bunny Jean Cook for discovering this gem. In Pittsburgh there was a big event for rabbits called the Bunny Bowl yesterday. They got to run around free in an area set up like a football field--just for rabbits. How clever is that? Our family's rabbit, Robby, would have love to participate in that event.

What Time Does the Game Start, Mom?

Welcome, dog lovers, to All Things Dog Blog on this beautiful Super Bowl Sunday. Today is our First Annual Super Dog Sunday Blog Hop. I'm more of a FIDO Fan than a football fan so I decided to design a little fun for myself and my fellow Fido Fans that takes up the Super Bowl theme. I guess I also have another reason; my dad was a huge Packer's fan. How 'bout we dedicate this event to dear old dad.! I'm sure he's busy collecting his final bets on the game as this is being read by all of you.


We don't need to watch the game to have our own fun, right? You can enjoy this blog hop by clicking on the thumbnails to visit other blogs and viewing the fun photos of their pups in some sort of Football theme. I'll be posting photos here and on Facebook throughout the game. Bounce around and have a nice time. That's why they call this a BLOG HOP!


If you are a blogger who would like to participate by leaving a pic of your pup, here's the deal:

• There must be a football, jersey, or TV with a ball game on, as well as at least one dog in the picture
• Enter multiple pictures if you like
• Feel free to plug your team with a costume, color scheme or other creative theme builder.

Jump in and show off your little darling or BIG boy for all of us to marvel at. We love princesses with footballs and your Mastiff is welcome to wear a Super Bowl Jersey.

Finally, here's the recipe I promised in my announcement post.  I have to say, they're pretty tasty, even for us moms. A tad more molasses and I'd be fighting the dogs for my share.

Peanut Butter/Molasses Dog Cookies

Fido's Football Snacks*


*We used organic ingredients, but you can whip these up however you choose.This recipe was adapted to our theme from one at Dog Treat Kitchen.


Ingredients:

• 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
• 1/4 cup rolled oats
• 1 teaspoon baking powder
• 3/4 cup milk, reduced fat or fat free
• 1 cup peanut butter (salt and sugar free is best)
• 1 Tablespoon blackstrap molasses

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
2. Whisk dry ingredients together
3. Stir in remaining ingredients gradually, until well mixed.
4. Turn out onto a floured surface and knead to a soft dough.
5. Roll out to 1/2" thick and use cookie cutters to create shapes
6. Bake 20 minutes, slightly less if your dough is thinner.
7. Cool and store in an airtight container.

These treats are quite hard and crunchy, and will be fine in your treat jar for a couple of weeks. Dog Treat Kitchen tells us that you can cook for a shorter time to create a softer biscuit, but be sure to refrigerate afterwards. The harder treats freeze quite well for up to 6 months. Enjoy your Super Dog Sunday celebration. Tanner and Oliver sure are!

Need help coming up with a photo idea for the Super Dog Sunday Blog Hop? You're not alone. I've gotten tons of emails this week saying "I don't have a football or a jersey; how can I get a shot?" Here's a few tips for you football challenged households:

• Sign on to the NFL website and position Fido in front of the computer. "Say cheese!"
• Grab the sports section of the newspaper and find a Super Bowl Story with pictures. Fido can 'read' the paper while you snap photos of him looking adorable.
• Bandanas in your team's colors work great to create the image you're going for: Packer's fans choose Green and Gold or Yellow. Steelers will love Black and Gold.
• Make a poster to show off your team spirit and snap Fido's picture in front of it.

Why Join in the Super Dog Sunday Blog Hop?

Why not? I can think of a whole litter of reasons why you should join in. Here's just a few:

• Maybe you simply aren't into the Super Bowl Sunday game and need something else fun to do.
• You want to check out cute dog pics with a NFL footbal theme
• Get into the conversation by leaving comments and talking it up on Facebook, just for the fun of it all.
• Hop from one blog to another, checking out their cute dogs with footballs, jerseys, and team spirit.
• Meet new bloggers and visit their blogs
• Comment and get acquainted
• If you have a blog, you can submit your own dog picture(s) for inclusion and get links to your blog from all the other blogs that participate.
• No blog? It's okay. Feel free to post your pic on my Facebook page so you can get in on the action. Then you can still participate in the hopping fun, by visiting the links on the site.
• Thumbnails will appear on my blog, as well as all the others that join in, so you can see them everywhere you go--even your blog.
• Laugh a lot! Go ahead...Bark out loud, if you like!

How do you join in? First, grab your camera and your dog. Take some cute pics of him playing with a football, wearing a jersey, or even napping with the football.
