Mutt Monday Remembers Our Pets

Pet people all know about the Rainbow Bridge. If you search the Internet you'll find dozens of images of this playground of pets that have passed to what we may call animal Heaven. I like to think that this is a place where our pets' needs are all met and they are once again young and healthy, able to be as active and energetic as they once were as pups or kittens.

In honor of our lost Xena, I began the Rainbow Bridge Memorial page here on All Things Dog Blog sometime ago. You can enjoy a video to soft music while you browse the pets and their stories. Some have verses or stories, others just dates. Each owner has chosen their own words to share, and some could not find their words. It's okay.

If you would like to memorialize your lost pet here, please send a clear photo along with any words or sentiments you'd like to include to AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com. Place RAINBOW BRIDGE MEMORIAL in the subject line and I'll let you know when you pet can be viewed.

Today's post is an opportunity for other bloggers to join in with memories of their own pets or others they have written about. Rainbow Bridge episodes are welcome, as are eulogies or obituaries that share the love of an owner for a lost pet.

Keeping Fido Cool on Mutt Monday

The heat is on. Pet lovers all over are struggling to get their dogs out for walks during hours that are not sweltering. Be sure to be aware of the temperatures of the pavement or asphalt as well. Cement or concrete are cooler than asphalt for your dog's pads.

I've linked up some archived posts offering tips on keeping your dog cool and safe from overheating during outdoor walks and other activities. Keep in mind that walking the indoor perimeter of your local pet superstore could be an option on particularly hot days.

Mutt Monday Shares Kitty Litter Tips

With a Swheat Scoop Twitter Party being announced tomorrow, I find myself thinking about kitty litter quite a bit these days. Sounds boring, right? What's cool is that this kitty litter is so Eco-friendly that I feel much better about using it. Our compost pile stays busy year round with vegetable ends, kitchen scraps and dry parts of dead plants, etc. Now I have another way to add to my composting pile, and keep my upper body exercise going--LOL. Turning that pile with a pitchfork is definitely a tough job when the pile is more full.

Patches has had her share of litter transitions and has been a good sport about it all. Not every cat owner can say this; some have finicky meows that really do have preferences. Some kitties simply refuse to use new litter.

Mutt Monday: Greener Flea Control

After years of hot spots and  skin issues on our sweet Xena, we eventually switched to an organic approach to everything: food for both ourselves and our pets, lawn care, pet pest prevention as well as housecleaning products. No sooner did we make these changes than our Xena finally ceased her constant series of skin troubles. It is clear now that she was reacting to pesticides, herbicides and synthetic fertilizers on our lawn, where she enjoyed lounging each morning. I wish I had known sooner.

Now we're on a quest to do everything possible to keep Tanner and Oliver toxin-free for a long, healthy life. Below I've shared some of the many posts I've written on how we manage these pests. You may find yourself having an aha moment when you read some of them. Please feel free to share your thoughts or leave your questions in the comments section. I'll do my best to help with anything you'd like to learn more about.

How Will You Celebrate With Your Dog?

How is it possible that it's already Memorial Day? Wasn't I just reviewing Valentines treats? Oh my; time does fly!

Ready to Celebrate

Today we're sharing posts that are relevant to patriotic holidays like Memorial Day. Are you heading to a celebration at your neighborhood park or having a back yard cookout? My family members have each headed off on their own special outings, while I'll be staying back to swim with Tanner and enjoy some socializing at the dog park or our local pet supply store. We need to work more with Jacque on calming his social enthusiasm :) We've learned that an air-conditioned environment on a hot day is a wonderful way to practice socialization.

When I think about what I just wrote, I have to giggle at myself. Anyone who met Oliver at Blogpaws will tell you he's the friendliest pup on the planet. The moment he locks eyes on you or your dog every inch of him begins to wiggle. With a group of 500 pet lovers and 80 dogs, he was one very happy Fido at Blogpaws, at least while he was awake. I think he's lobbying to return again for our 5th visit in 2014!
