Dog Travel Experts: Road Trips with Fido

by Carrie Boyko, CEB
Date Rescheduling Note:  According to the Radio Pet Lady Network, this show has been rescheduled to air at 8 PM ET on Wednesday, July 24. Our apologies for this error!

Recently Oliver and I took a road trip to Washington, D.C. for the Blogpaws Conference. We made an adventure of the journey, stopping off to visit each of my two sons and checking out some quaint, small towns along the way.

As a result, I learned a few tricks to traveling alone with a dog. Tonight I'll be joining the Dog Travel Experts Radio Show on the RPL Radio Network. Being interviewed about our trip involved a few surprises for me, but I think I was able to share some of the things I learned as well as some of the tips I already had learned from prior trips.

You can listen live at 8 PM ET, or listen anytime this week via podcast at this link. You'll see a player. Just click the Play button and you'll be able to enjoy part or all of the show. Come back anytime to listen to other shows. It's a great series on traveling with your dog. Enjoy!

Pets Prepare for Summer Vacation

Tanner Makes His Selection
I'm not quite certain that Tanner was totally comfortable with Oliver doing this recent photo shoot for Petco. After I snapped a few pictures of Oliver, Tanner moved in and seemingly staked out his choice among all the prizes. This is definitely a toy that Tanner could enjoy, providing the challenge of learning to place the ring on the cone.

Today's Petco winners are lucky to get a variety of travel and Summer fun items, and it's a darn good thing I'm getting to move them out of here. Sometimes I have trouble keeping all the prizes out of reach of my counter surfer.

You'll see the prizes more clearly in this photo:

  • The Sumo wrestler at top left will be paired with the workout dumbbell--a perfect combo.
  • Hanging from the pocket on the far left is a picnic favorite--watermelon and shrimp on a skewer that we're pretty certain will be used as a tug toy.
  • The Burt's Bees Shampoo is combined with a paw salve, seen at far right.
  • Tanner has selected his fave, the cone toy, which is a terrific brain teaser for your dog.
  • The 3 large dog treat bars are not pictured.
Whether you're on the go or enjoying your own back yard this Summer, these prizes will be useful and fun. We've certainly enjoyed bringing them to you. Be sure to stop by Petco's Facebook page or Twitter to let them know how much you enjoy these promotional giveaways. They'll appreciate your thoughtfulness.

Our winners in the order of the listing above are: Y. Flores, K. Pugh, K. Nelson, K. Volz, and K. Welch. I'll be in touch via AllThingsDogBlog@gmail.com. Please feel free to get in touch with your mailing address. Congratulations and Happy Independence Day.

Happy tails,

Ready to Travel, Oliver?
Oliver is getting excited about the chatter at the All Things Dog Blog house. A plan to incorporate more travel is happy news to our boys. After Oliver's recent 9 day jaunt to D.C., he definitely enjoyed the new hotel each day, carefully selecting the perfect bed for our night's rest.

Petco is promoting travel inspired toys and outdoor fun this month, with all the products you'll need to enjoy the experience. We're helping!

Fido Friendly Magazine Takes Dog Talk One Step Beyond

Is it Too Late
 to Enter the Photo Contest?
Recently when I had the opportunity to guest post with Fido Friendly's Blog, I learned first hand just why their print magazine is so special. Taking dog talk to the lifestyle level, Fido Friendly covers topics such as travel, wellness, health, and even fashion, along with the usual training and dog care advice that most magazines dole out as a regular routine.

Fido Friendly has carved out a niche for themselves as the elite magazine for dog lovers, and along the way has befriended their online peers--bloggers--and become a part of their ranks, as well.

Taking up the torch of helping the rescues, Fido Friendly has engaged themselves in a Cross-country adoption tour cleverly named "Get Your Licks on Route 66". A rather radical approach to pet adoption, this campaign operates from an RV that tours 7 states along the famed Route 66, building awareness and helping with shelter events along the way. Teaming up with the North Shore Animal League America, Fido Friendly is out to make a difference.

Wondering how they did with this interesting venture? You can check their Tour Route here or visit posts like those at the following links of both the North Shore Animal League and Fido Friendly.

In their own way, Fido Friendly is helping with the Be the Change effort, started by the Blogpaws group, a fun bunch of pet bloggers that just want to make a difference. Welcome aboard, Fido Friendly

Would you, my readers, like to try out a FREE copy of Fido Friendly Magazine? I have 2 recent copies that will go to two lucky readers who can answer this question:

In a recent edition of Fido Friendly
a photo contest showed off the dogs'
 ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___ ___.

It's okay. You can cheat and look it up in their online version. The first two correct answers left here as comments will win. Ready...Set...Go!
