Brainy Bones Stimulate Fido's Mind

Tanner Masters Whirl-a-Bone
This review has been a long time in the making. When I first met Mike Conde, the inventor and brains behind Brainy Bones, he was still researching and perfecting his design. His excitement was contagious and we enjoyed a bit of back and forth email as he closed in on getting his first batch made and off to the stores. Watching that creative process was fun for me, but no less than watching my dogs enjoy the fruits of Mike's labor.

On the Road with Brainy Bones

Tanner and Oliver each have their own talents. Clearly Brainy Bones was right up Tanner's alley. After mastering Peek-a-Bone, the apparent easiest of the threesome, I offered him Whirl-a-Bone and then Tug-a-Bone, each being cleaned out within minutes. That's not to say there was no challenge, though. Tanner just happens to have a Houdini snout that allows him to open doors, crates, gates and all manner of toys with hidden compartments. Needless to say he was quite proud of himself.

Oliver, on the other hand, has the tiniest snout on the planet, or at least that's how his veterinarian describes it while examining Oliver's teeth. That said, Oliver still possesses great diligence and will stick with the task at hand for quite sometime.

Downward Dog Oliver
With the gentlest of bites and little apparent strength in his jaws, Oliver was unable to nuzzle into the Peek-a-Bone for quite a while. He could smell the treats inside and really did put his heart and soul into the effort, finally getting a trickle of payoff. Yay, Oliver! I know this toy challenged him, but he persevered :)

On Thanksgiving I had a little fun with the boys when I placed some turkey inside their Brainy Bones, giving them an extra special game to pursue, while we enjoyed a big family dinner.

Brainy Bones have now taken a special place in the arsenal of ways that I suggest my readers keep their dogs' minds busy. These sorts of activities are great for rainy days, tiring out an overly-energetic dog, and building his problem solving skills.

Ready for a Ride to Grandma's House

We have also discovered that the Brainy Bones toys make a perfect traveling companion. On a long drive, giving each dog a challenging toy with yummies inside, helps to keep their mind occupied and boredom at bay. We highly recommend you keep one near your traveling supplied to remind you to take it along when you're on the road during the holidays and beyond. Storing the Brainy Bone by your leashes will help remind you to bring this terrific busy bone along for some fun exploration by Fido.

As you may have guessed, I'm running a giveaway to help Fido meet his New Years goal of doing more brain work! That sounds like a great resolution for most dogs. How about your Fido? You can enter below to win one of 6 Tug-a-Bones to give your dog's brain a good workout. Enjoy!

I've looked at all three and based on the size of the dogs I'm thinking the Tug-a-Bone would be best for Gizmo...he's never had a toy like this so it's gonna be fun to watch him try

These bones look great...never tried them! Have 3 little guys who would love the fun!

I haven't heard of these before, but I want to get Lulu into puzzle toys to stimulate her brain!

All three bones are very interesting. Schooner would probably like the Tug-a-Bone. Skipper would probably like the Whirl- a- bone.
I would be interested in what the Vizsla breed would like.

Shay our Golden probably would like Tug A Bone

The tug-a-bone would be my Daisy's favorite. She is a clever dog that likes to use her paws and mouth so this would be right up her alley. She is an English Springer Spaniel.

I think Kouga and Artie could master Tug A Bone because both are masters at the other dog puzzle toys we have.

Chach would love the peek a bone!

The Tug-a-Bone would be great for our cattle dog while for the cocker spaniel the peek a bone would be great.

Danielle Murgia said...

I have a corgi/ cocker spaniel mix and I would think the peek a bone would be perfect. We got one of the hide a treat boxes last year and she had a very hard time figuring it out. Yet, she can figure out the one we bought for the CAT!

After reading your review, it seems if Tug-a-bone is the most difficult, I would get that for my beagle! He's only about 8 months old, but he's really smart and I like toys that keep him busy to himself for a while so I can get things done around the house before playing with him again.

Linda Szymoniak said...

While I think mine would like Tug-a-bone, any of them would be great for my five Treeing Walker Coonhounds!

Casey is a huge goldendoodle (doodus gigantus) who has been using treat toys and puzzles most of his two years. It's getting harder and harder to find new challenges for him. He goes to work with me, so has a lot of lay time in the office (with breaks, of course.) Wherever I go, he goes, too. I love these bones because they're challenging and portable. I could tuck one or two in my purse as a surprise and fun activity for him during the day, or at an evening social event. I think he'd like the Tug-A-Bone, as it appears to be the most challenging. (A whole set would be great!) I love the way they look--their colors and shapes--and they look durable, too.

My dogs like tugging on things so the Tug a Bone. Kota is a Husky mix and Kita is Border Collie mix and they have Shunta their baby so has a little of both in her.

These all look great! My smart boy Pierson who is an Aussie mix needs all the mental stimulation he can get. You mentioned these would be great on a long car ride too and I totally agree!!! Both Maya and Pierson would have loved to have these toys when we drove from Kansas to Texas and back for Thanksgiving.

These are great! My dogs get so bored sometimes. Niveah (american bulldog/pit mix) and Skeeter (chocolab/boxer mix) would love the tug-a-bone. Demmi (catahoula/collie mix) and Maggie May (pom/terrier mix) would love the whirl-a-bone.

I have a rescue pup which we think is a collie/husky/lab mix and he would adore a tug a bone

Dumpling (shih tzu mix) would probably like the Tug-a-Bone! We love twitter parties, so this would be a welcome addition to our calendar *wink*

I like all 3, but the tug a bone would be best. I have 3 Boston Terriers and a French Bulldog.

I like Peek A Bone. My dane will need something simple to get started.

Would love to win a prize for my dog. He is extremely hard on toys and usually destroys them. Lakota is 7 yrs old and 82 pounds. He is black lab and white german shephard but looks like Rin Tin Tin with floppy ears.

Great toys and a great way to keep our dogs mentally stimulated. Maybe they'll stop raiding the fridge!

I leave a response whenever I like a post on a site or if
I have something to contribute to the conversation. Usually it's triggered by the fire communicated in the article I read. And after this article "Brainy Bones Stimulate Fido's Mind". I was excited enough to leave a thought ;-) I actually do have a couple of questions for you if you usually do not mind. Is it just me or do a few of these remarks look like they are coming from brain dead people? :-P And, if you are posting on other sites, I would like to follow everything new you have to post. I think Coco my American Cocker Spaniel would like the Tug-a-Bone.

Shiloh is a Shetland Sheepdog (but huge- the size of a border collie!). He's extremely smart and pretty high energy, so I'm always looking for puzzle toys to keep him occupied and give my arm a break from throwing toys for him! He'd like the Tug-a-bone!

I think that Molly (a rescued Beagle) could master a Whirl-a-Bone if there were sufficiently odorous treats involved.

Just a note to connect my comment to the Rafflecopter: The Rafflecopter calls me 'Margot' since it is accessing my facebook where I am 'Margot Core'; the Rafflecopter connects to this email: annazed10 [at] yahoo [dot] com

Rocket, my rescued pit mix, would love the tug-a-bone. He loves all of his toys! Thanks!

Katie said...

I think the peek a bone to start with for roxy and molly, they both love treats roxy is good at doing tricks for treats while getting treats out of toys and playing the find it game is the way molly most enjoys getting treats(roxy is a beagle jack russell and molly is a beagle corgi mix both rescues)

Misty said...

Steel is all about the TREAT/FOOD toys. She'll love them all and the Twitter party to boot.

Nancy said...

Molimo is not food motivated so http://brainybones.com/Peek-a-Bone.html is probably best for her.

Rick said...

Future twitter gatherings will be even more fun if the girls are side tracked with Brainy Bones. Mo & Bugs will love swaping these. They are labs and they love to share with each other.

Nancy said...

I forgot to mention, Molimo is a chocolate lab.

Steel is a LAPrador

We have two Labs and a Border Coolie. They would love the Whirl-a-Bone

Personally they all seem great to me, but I like the Whirl-a-Bone the best I think, but I would be happy to win any of them. I think Scruffy, my Toy Poodle, would enjoy these. He always needs something to keep him entertained.

I have a few dogs (3) and I really think my Boggle (beagle/boston) would love the twirl-a-bone, she's good at figuring out things. Bet she'd have a blast. And, she LOVES treats - so, it's a perfect match!
