Still missing our Xena after 18 months, I have found a flood of new products for senior dogs on the market. Today I'd like to introduce you to a few, and offer giveaways to share some of the samples I was provided by Petco recently. The products featured here will be given away in combinations as shown on the Rafflecopter entry form at the bottom.
The Silver Tails Senior Products focus on ways to make your aging dog healthier, more comfortable, and easier for you to care for. Their Pet Bed Cover was a fun surprise for me. I removed it from the package to examine it, and discovered a nice adjustable elastic that will allow the cover to go over most any small to medium-sized dog bed. The bed cover is a very fashionable brown.
Inside the bed cover are removable inserts of Bamboo Charcoal for air purification, helping eliminate odors, and absorbing dampness. The cover has a waterproof lining, yet is machine washable. Even the bamboo charcoal insert can be hand washed and placed in the sun to dry and recharge its odor-absorbing properties.
For your Fido with sore muscles, arthritis or hip displasia, the Infrared Massager has 2 heated heads (small and larger) and switches that allow you to choose between heat, small massage head, larger massager, or a combination. This handheld massager is battery operated and comes with an electric recharger. It may also be used on cats.

One senior problem Shiloh has is arthritis in his hip. Most of the floors where we live now are wood, and he's having a rough time with them. He has been moaning and groaning a lot lately.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing is that he has become super clingy. He used to be ok with me being gone for hours, but now he's terrified of me leaving him for any time at all, and doesn't adjust well to changes anymore. I don't know if that's a senior issue or if it's due to the fire we had and having to move from the only home he's ever known. It started after the fire, so it might be a combination of both. I'd like to try the Comfort Zone and see if it helps make him feel more at ease.
Thanks for the giveaway! My chihuahua Bullet tends to have seperation anxiety when I go out and this would be such a comforting stress reliever for him.

I miss my senior dog Sephi too. This would have been a great contest for me to enter a few months ago. Maya will only be 5 in August and Pierson is probably not yet 2. Good luck to everyone who has a senior dog!!!
ReplyDeleteOh the massager would be great to try on Golden. She's already getting the typical joint issues. Some arthritis showed on her last exam.

ReplyDeleteAlthough my dogs arent old the massage would be great after a great run or a day of competing. Also one of my dogs has a lot of stress issues, certain noises and separation anxiety .
ReplyDeleteI am lucky to have a healthy Service Dog. She takes glucosimine and chondroitin for preventive reasons, and i am sure after a long, hard day, a massage would be well appreciated.

ReplyDeleteTwo of my seniors are experiencing increasingly restrictive arthritic issues. I have actually started acupuncture with my one dog, so the massage item would be a wonderful supplement to that.

ReplyDeleteMolimo is now two. She has had bad hip dysplasia since right before a year and a half. So I don't know if that counts as senior problems, but it's problematic.
ReplyDeleteI have seven senior rescue dogs. They all have varying degrees of arthritis and joint problems. Honey had to have bilateral luxating patella surgery twice. Sunshine is stiff when getting up. Godiva had been shot in one of her rear legs and uses it as a peg leg to get around. Lumpy and Bozz limp off and on. Lulu is a tripawd. Bella is still her silly self jumping around doing pirouettes. I have them on supplements to help.
ReplyDeleteLumpy and Brees suffer from separation anxiety. Lumpy, Bella, Sunshine, and Honey all have thunderstorm phobias.

The love of my life, Daisy, Chihuahua, (estimated 10 years old this July), has cherry eye, probably arthritis, and I just noticed a cloudy spot in the other eye last night. I've noticed that it takes her longer to walk down the stairs now, too.
ReplyDeleteAs for the other dogs, they chew, chew, chew. I've stopped spending so much time at home and it's turned into chaos with the dogs. They're left loose when people leave instead of being put into their crates, and they're allowed to chew everything up, anything plastic, they go for it. I'm disappointed, but mostly in my family, who I'm supposed to have trusted to take care of my dogs while I'm gone.
Anyway, chewing is a big problem. But I'm more worried about Daisy, since she is specifically mine.
Chewing on things is what our puppy does.

ReplyDeleteWith a 90 lb dog that is going on 6, and a younger but awkwardly-built and lanky 60 lb dog, we are anticipating joint issues in the near future. The younger could also use some calming pheromones at all hours of the day.

ReplyDeleteBentley is my 2 year old Shih Tzu and although he is not experiencing any major issues I know how much he enjoys belly rubs, massages to his ears, and plenty of TLC. Also, there is my mom's Maltese Beemer who is 5 years old. Beemer is a rescue and he required a lot of "assisting" to get him where he is now. If I were to win I would certainly split this giveaway with my mom.

ReplyDeleteMy puppy can't be left with anyone. She has some abandonment issues. It's hard to leave her at the groomers, my mother's house, or at the vet's office. I can't even go on a vacation because of this. Thanks

All of my animals are 10+. i have 3 dogs and 3 cats. The golden retriever is getting a little wobbly on back legs. I have 2 bichons that have had surgery on all their back legs. Their knees went out and they have steel in them. They stretch out and I bet they must bother them some. This is great for them and all dogs really!!!! Rita Spratlen rjspratlen@gmail.com

ReplyDeleteamy my dog is allergic to chicken and is also starting to show some hip problems every since he got bitten by a spider and got a staph infection in his leg so now poor jake has issues with his left side he cries at nightand its just hard to know hes in pain
ReplyDeleteevie is almost 11 yr, will be 9-12-2012. she was an only child for almost 8 yrs. she has never warmed up to her 2 sisters. evie gets agitated and starts scratching when i dont pay attention to her. or she will sulk and not sleep with me and the other 2 girls...she also gets upset when i tell her she cant do something, she gets very angry and will sometimes growl at me...seems she has become more irritable as she as grown older. she just developed a staff infection from rolling in the grass. she loves to roll in the grass after it has been cut....she also has always been afraid of thunder and loud rain, lightning. she will not go out to potty and will hold it forever.

ReplyDeleteI think its very thoughtful that you are carrying and helping produce good products for our pets, I know its very profitable, but its the thought that counts. My little white Toy Poodle Dusty is 12 and very high strung. He needs anything that would relax and calm him down and help him enjoy life to the fullest.
ReplyDeletemy trouble has arthritic issues due to his being abused before we rescued him. Whenever he wakes up, he slowly stands and stretches his legs, testing them before moving forward. sometimes he even just lays back down for a while before getting up again. hydepennym@gmail.com

My puppy is so young and playful, I can't keep up with all the raw hides, dry food, and toys he goes through!
ReplyDeleteMy dog, Orion, has moderate HD that is getting worse a he gets older. Keeping weight off him is challenging too
ReplyDeleteRalphie seems to be having an issue with arthritis, although we're not sure so I've got him on a joint ease supplement which seem to help a lot (and he's constantly dieting, I swear he gains weight far too easily!)
